Hi Nigel I would be getting onto your gp to put some pressure on your treating doctor. Or the gp needs to liase with the specialists as to what after care is most suited to your mother. When I finished treatment I had a few problems and my gp simply phoned the oncologist and he recommended some medication and that was then sorted. I hope things improve a bit for you and your mum. When I lost my father, I clung onto the thought that I would not wish him back the way he was. If I could have turned back time then it would be different, but that is not possible. I feel for you as it is difficult to lose a loved one. The other thing is I knew my Dad would not want me to be sad forever and so I try to have happy thoughts and happy memories of our time together. Just a bit of a side note here. I experienced all my pain before treatment and once treatment started my pain started to diminish. I ate all through my treatment and had no mouth sores whatsoever. My skin was horribly burnt but I kind of expected that as I have very sensitive neck skin, but we managed to get through and thankful for antibiotics. I tend to disagree a bit ... I believe there is a lot he can do in. He can care for his skin before it gets burnt, which means salt water soaks straight away. He can find out about oral hygiene, bicarb soda and salt water worked well for me and was recommended by my dentist. He may need a peg tube and could discuss this with his oncologist before treatment begins. The drinks such as sustagen are good and fatigue is a factor both during and after treatment. I don't hear you moaning or whinging at all. I just hear someone who is trying to help someone else and having a whole lot of problems along the way. Do you have a cancer nurse assigned to you? I found mine to be a great source of information whilst I was undergoing treatment. It sounds to me like your husband is not coping and perhaps there are further complications. Maddie I think you are amazing and incredibly resilient. Even through all of your bad times you have always offered to be there for others and that just shows a enormous depth of character. I wish you much happiness for 2013!
