Hi Laura, I'm from WA too. I have just done a google search on your condition & at least it is a fairly common occurrence & treatable. Where in WA are you & what treatment has your oncologist started you on? It will be hard being so young & being diagnosed with cancer but as I said from what I have read yours is common & treatable so hopefully soon for you it will all just be a thing of the past & you can get on with your life & finish school. What is it about when people are saying they have had better treatment in the public system?I went privately for surgery but did share a room with 3 others. It turned out I loved chatting to the younger womanin the next bed .That was a positive .I also had the same ENT and anaesthetist for the third time and this helped a little. For radiation it made no difference whether one was public or private but for follow-up visits I see my rad/onc. in his private rooms ,not at the hospital. A Facebook friend in northern NSW was told to go public by her doctor,although she had private insurance . For surgery and reconstruction she had no out-of -pocket expenses. Great news for you! We are often talking about the shortcomings of our doctors and only occasionally about the great work they do for us. You helped me remember how much work my radiation/oncologist put into my treatment .I had IMRT and the preparation for this takes many man hours .Mine took longer than expected .They rang me a couple of days before it was to begin to say it was a difficult case and they needed a few more days to plan. I finished this RT at the beginning of August ,2010 and there is no sign of recurrence to date. So I am grateful to my oncologist for that. ... View more
