hi Doofette1 - for me it has been 12 years since my husband died - I am now 62 - no the grief doesnt go away, it just blends into each day. The journey goes on and the the intensity of the grief gets less with time and easier to bear. Family and friends and lots to do make all the difference, but at days end the bed is still empty except for you - that for me is the hardest part ! ! I have never said this to anyone so I suppose it is a moment for me too.
If you have children it is important to remain focused for them - mine were 18 and 20 - so a critical time in their education at University - this helped us cope.
Stay strong

Has anyone had bowel urgency problems after radiation 9 now 1 year later and no better)? I seem to need to go very urgently 1st thing in the morning and then immediately after a meal. Is this common? Would appreciate info on this delicate subject.

Hi Bev - I have just returned home after 28 sessions in Sydney. Some days are good , others I feel..... tired, preoccupied with nothing in particular. How were you? There is not a lot out there about uterine cancer, any idea why?

Hi Beccnat - I think awareness about uncommon types of female cancers needs to be raised. We hear sooo often about Breast Cancer and the rest barely get a mention. I found it scary when diagnosed in July with Uterine Cancer because it was never on my radar - yep we have a PAP smear and mammogram and we all think we will be fine. How wrong can we be...... Until I went in The Relay for Life and spoke to Cancer Council people I didnt even know about this support group or I would have made enquiries earlier. Kinda makes me mad to think how ignorant I was, even though I had done Net Searches on UC. Good luck and I'm thinking of you

I had a total hysto in July followed by 28 sessions of radio in case lymph nodes were affected even though PET scan was clear. Now home 4 weeks and getting slowly better with bowel and bladder. Skin which was burnt has peeled but still have a delightful tan where the sun doesnt normally reach( ha ha). My symptons started with slight post-menapausal bleeding and smelly discharge - unfortunately I was in the NT on a remote station for 6 weeks and didnt want to rock the boat with medical concerns, so shut my mouth, hoped I had enough pads to last and on my return went straight to Gyno.

Hi Sharon - Claudia here( we wrote via Bev a few days ago). I know how you feel when you think there is no one else with anal cancer but I am sure there will be answers for you. My husband had anal cancer but only discovered it too late - had surgery + chemo and radio. This was way back in early 90's so I think advances have been made since then. Be strong my dear especially as you are young and have a young family. miracles can and do happen. I will continue to write to you privately via email. cheers claudia

I am from the Far South Coast and had to attend POW for 6 weeks radio - too far to make regular trips so stayed the entire time with my daughter. My question is this - a) had my daughter not been available how does one generally find out about facilities when one lives so far away. b) on similar vain - big Sydney hospitals seem to have no concept of distance patients travel for treatment as there is NO indication on the forms how far ie in Km - one travels for appointments - only the name of your town which in my case is obscure. eg they thought I would pop home for the weekends - 4 hours one way, bad bladder and bowels and feeling so-so. ( as I am a widow this was not very likely ).
