Rob I had mine out nearly 3 years ago, and they had to remove all the nerves, glands, etc. Since the there has only been liited success with achieving erections. I've found the Caverject solution works very well - not very exciting sticking a needle into the old fella, but the results are fantastic. Lately I've also tried the vacuum device with good success. Again not terribly romantic but results are great. Doc tells me there is not much chance of things ever going back to pre surgery days, but having survived the cancer and still being here, the inconvenience is not such a big issue. Talk to your Doc and partner about it and don't be afraid to try something new.

I can relate to everything that has been posted on this subject. While we have not had the greatest intimacy for the last few years, having had the Prostate removed followed by 2 "minor" bouts of bowel cancer has really been a blow to the "manly" image. Not getting it and not being able to get it are worlds apart, and I don't think most people understand the difference. The Caverject needles work well but it is very hard from a mental view that the only way to have sex is to stick a needle in the side of the old fella.It's something that is not really discussed either side of the diagnosis and operation, but it needs to be out there in the public forum.There is a lot of talk about breast cancer and the effect it has on woman and their feelings after treatment but there is very little discussion or information for men.Lets all keep spreading the word and get the conversations happening

HI Folks Last year I had Prostate Cancer which was removed by surgery. After that I had a Colonoscopy which resulted in the removal of several cancerous polyps.Then this year I had the same procedure again with the same results. Have manged to avoid chemo so far, but finding the mental part of it all is the hardest to deal with.

HI Folks In April last year I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer which was a huge shock. Further checks and Biopsy showed it was contained. We decided to have surgery rather than radiation, and this was carried out in June. So glad we did it. The biopsy didn't show that it was 26% stage 4 aggressive, so it was ready to jump ship and go through the body. Surgery was OK. 6 months later I'm clear of that one, but still having some issues from the surgery which I just have to work through. About a month ago I had other tests and found out I also have some Bowel cancer, so currently having more tests and some treatment for that. We are lucky enough to have a Cancer council branch, as well as Solaris here in Bunbury, and they have both been a great help in getting through the process. I can't say enough how much help it is having support and specific groups available to meet with. Talking about the experience is a wonderful way of coping. Ive been seeing a counsellor on a semi regular basis and would recommend that to everyone. I found the mental side is the hardest part of the journey. Some days are great, some are very ordinary. Can't say I'm depressed, but struggle some days when the pain gets bad post surgery (6 months later), Interested to hear how other people are finding their journeys.
