Jessica i should also mention my brother in law has throat cancer and it spread to his brain also. He has had his throat cancer removed 6 months ago and is recovering well and eating fine but knows he has another 6 months before his new normal. He recently had Radiotherapy for his brain Tumor and had some eating issues after but is okay now and being monitored. We share our experiences as we really do understand what the other is going through and family support is everything But he will want quiet times and let him have them. maintaining weight is a big thing for him to maintain strength during any treatment program and I know to well that can be a challenge but sustagen or forty sips are a must. take care Bruce

Hi Jessica sorry for not getting back sooner my cancer emails started going to Junk . i hope your dad is going okay with the Chemo, is it still going and has he had any side effects as it really does vary person to person. what are the next steps for your dad. For you it’s about supporting and being there for him but also managing your well-being as you are all in this together. You can have your down times and will as will your dad that is normal and you will share them times then get back up and deal with what is ahead but don’t look to far ahead or scared off by internet stories as they are a very small sample. Please stay in touch and let me know the progress. With you in my thoughts stay strong. bruce

Hi Jessica just seeing where your dad is at and how he is now going along with you and how you are coping. i have seen my parents both battle cancer, and I am 3 months out from major surgery for Oesophagus Cancer. I had chemoradiation prior. I am happy to discuss and share my experiences and give you support where I can even if it’s just someone to share your emotions with. I have 3 children aged 32 to 40 that have travelled my journey. I am 61. All the best and dont feel alone. Bruce

Phil I and 61 and was told I would likely lose some hair as well with 6 weeks of chemo and radiation to go through so I prepared with a number 6 all over, got beanies and baby shampoo but lost no hair that we could see. Still get my number 6 and my wife is now a wizz at it so go for it not much to lose. Didn’t trust going for a number 4 but no harm either. Cheers Bruce

It’s definitely you not you wife feeling that way for sure so make it up during the day and don’t overthink it. We all need reassurance and comfort so nothing wrong in feeling it’s petty as it’s not to you. cheers

Hi To set the scene i am 61 and was diagnosed as well with Oesophageal Cancer in Feb. Have completed 5 weeks Chemoradiation and have surgery in early June. I did go okay so I can’t compare how he is feeling but did talk to to many that were doing it tuff in Chemo and had breaks for blood transfusions they mentally suffered and starting doubting if they could take the whole process as they were so sick. Transfusions and feeding helped a lot as they saw no way to recover before that. Once back home he really needs to eat and have sustagen twice a day that is your job easy or not, soups etc what does he like and they say carbs are okay so does he have sweet tooth ie jelly and cream or ice cream. You must stay positive and I would show him you are coping and that you are managIng what he has to do next so he doesn’t have to but explain It to him. Take a step at a time. Does he have a close friend he will talk to as he will be concerned for your welfare and therefore will bottle up his feelings. The staff were also really great is there someone he seems to relate to if so talk to them or the radio nurses that understand but voice your concerns as he won’t. I really hope he has resumed Radiation and they have managed to pick him up with treatment as he is now on the journey. Good luck stay strong and please let us know how he is going.
