kristel70 Hi I had a Whipple in 2010 for pancreatic cancer and also chemo after surgery,I didn’t need long term use of maxolon,3 months is still very soon after surgery,I remember it took many many months for me to get used to the new me,I was diagnosed terminal ,but the medicos are not always right ,it is a massive surgery and along the way you will have many doubts about your body and how it’s recovering don’t be afraid to ask your surgical team for help,I still take creon but within reason I can eat what I like,I found scrambled eggs my go to food for years ,walking and moving is excellent for you,feel free to ask me  about recovery but each of our bodies respond differently even though it’s 12 years survival in August I can remember how hard recovery is.We are in the outback camping one last time as my wife is becoming frail ,Internet cover here is spasmodic.but I will keep an eye on your post best wishes kj kj ... Hi BlueMoonshine I had Whipple surgery for pancreatic cancer,yes it showed on ultrasound and a CT I  am on a proton pump inhibitor,with Pancreatic Cancer there is a tumor marker on bloods they do CA19.9,They took part of my pancreas it was cancerous,I haven’t yet become Diabetic very fortunate,my body has a new normal after a Whipple ,it was a hard Surgery ,but I am alive so I can’t complain ,many others don’t get the opportunity of a Whipple unfortunately,I hope things go ok for you,nothing wrong with asking questions. Hello Agma Oh dear so sad what your Mum and brother are going through and facing,if they aren’t involved yet ,palliative cares involvement may help ease a treatment burden,I can understand your Mums treatment wishes.   Very difficult for you being the main  carer and then trying to keep it all together for the family .You need to keep an eye on your own health also ,possibly a social welfare person employed by the hospital or local council can point you in the right direction ,so that maximum effect can be applied to help you and your family ,also your GP may be able to suggest strategies for you and the rest of your family, best wishes . kj ... The stent your sister is having is usually inserted in the bile duct because of the blockage there ,the drainage of fluid build up helps relieve pressure on the lungs,for breathing and also helps other main organs it is standard at stage four I had a stent inserted in my bile duct,when I had pc the procedure doesn’t take long at all, As the liver failure gets worse draining is more frequent .My brother is going through draining at the moment he has severe liver failure.   Whipple surgery is the only hope for long term survival of pancreatic cancer,I am into my eleventh year post Whipple,I was diagnosed terminal after surgery,yet I survived,they aren’t sure why just very very lucky.   I myself had a massive haemorrhage three weeks after surgery I was told the first week was critical to watch for it happening,I lost a huge amount of blood and was revived twice ,so I do know the trauma involved mine happened at midnight as I was taken out of ct scanner it was touch and go for six hours,Whipple is very major surgery it was explained to me like trying to sew a sponge back together so much can go wrong with blood vessels And nerves ,I vividly remember lots of what occurred but I am still here and that’s all that matters,If someone can have a Whipple they do have a chance it can extend  life but  the surgery can flatten you,we all respond differently to it.
