August 2010
On Tuesday, 17 August 2010, my whole world fell apart.
My husband, Tony (47) the love of my life and father of our 3 beautiful children (26, 22 & 20), lost his 4 year battle with colorectal cancer.
He fought a long and hard battle but finally succumbed to this horrible disease last Tuesday at the Mater Hospice in Waratah surrounded by his loving family.
I miss him so much. I cant even contemplate life without him. I'm taking 1 day at a time.
I have lots of family and friends around supporting and helping me but its the little triggers, sitting and having tea and he is no longer sitting beside me............walking past the things I bought especially for him while grocery shopping.................. watching his favourite tv shows ............caring for him........................
We were married for 27 years, we were very rarely apart.
I know I'll get thru this in time, and they say every day gets easier.................I HOPE SO.
To those on the cancer rollercoaster I'm sending my love and best wishes to you. Linda.

Hi
I'm sorry to hear about your father's prognosis.
My mother was diagnosed in September 09 with T Cell lymphoma and we were given approximately 2 months. I was devastated, losing my father only 15 months earlier with mesothelioma (asbestosis) cancer caused thru his workplace and my husband, Tony, (47) has incurable bowel cancer.
Sadly mum passed away on 03/01/10, 1 day after my 46th birthday.
All I can say is be there as much as you can, make every second count, do the things that you've wanted to do with him while he is still well enough to do them and just enjoy every precious moment you have left. I will be thinking of you and your family. take care. Linda xxx

Hi Ps,
We have had palliative care help since December when my husband, Tony, was told back in December 08 that his cancer was back, but heart-breakingly incurable this time.
At times I dont know who we could have turned to for help at early hours of the morning, they are only a phone call away and nothing ever seems to be a bother.
We are in Cessnock, NSW. We have contact with palliative care each week, either a home visit (if things havent been too good) or a phone call (if things are good).
I'm so thankful to have this service and to know help is only a phone call away, at any time, if I'm worried about anything, no matter how big or small the problem is.
I wish your dad and family the very best.
take care Linda.

Hi Mick,
My husband Tony (46) is currently having chemo for rectal cancer. He is having irinotecan & 5fu. He has just completed his 7th cycle, which he is having every fortnight.
He was originally diagnosed in Aug 06 & was in remission for about 13 months but we found out in December that it has returned. We've been told its incurable as it is in the nerves and chemo is for palliative care, but we remain optimistic.
Tony had a ct early April and they have found some spots on his lungs. He is due for another ct on Monday, 180509, to see if he is responding to treatment, our fingers are crossed.
So far he has handled the treatment pretty well, he is very tired for about 4/5 days and he doesn't have much of an appetitite during this time. Unfortunately last fortnight he got mouth thrush really bad, so its really important to keep up with mouth washes to avoid the problem, his mouth/throat were sore for over a week and he had to have a strong antibiotic to get rid of it.
Tony had a temporary illeostomy when he had his original surgery in Jan 07 to remove the tumour. It was reversed in Nov 07. I hope everything goes well with your reversal and I'm sure if you have any questions and would like to talk to someone who has gone thru it that Tony would be happy to try and help.
take care Linda

Congratulations, that is wonderful. No matter what you say it will be fine. It is interesting to hear other peoples journeys and to hear that you're not the only one that's going thru/has been thru it. We will be going in our 2nd relay for life in Cessnock on 28/29 March 2009. There was such a wonderful atmosphere last year and I'm really looking forward to it. Good luck with it & please let us know how you go. take care Linda.

Hi There's not much sleep happening in our house at night. My husband has been told that his cancer is back after being in remission for about 14 months, but this time it's not operable & chemo is his only option, which will start late January. It's mainly due to the pain but as he may only get to sleep late he is then sleeping to maybe 11.00ish the next day so his bodyclock is all over the place. We are still trying to get his pain relief right. Palliative care visited for the first time last Friday. With help from pal care/gp his medication was altered so we are slowly getting on top of his pain, still a way to go though. take care Linda
