I like your thinking on not getting the results until after Christmas and enjoying family time together, yes you will be up and down, but it’s how you respond that matters, good luck with your results.

Picara14 I agree totally with sch , I have read where in some cases chemo can shrink the tumor enough ,so that surgery can performed ,it is devastating to be diagnosed,a good oncologist can help, mine was telling me this year they use a another chemo combination in the treatment,I was at a Pancreatic Cancer fundraiser walk this year organised by the Avner foundation in Melbourne ,where one of the speakers was a specialist doctor treating a stage 4 patient with a different protocol, they we’re having promising results treating her. Yes at the beginning all the feelings you describe happen to you, that’s a normal occurrence, but then it’s time to process and start to research all available options that you may or may not have, make a list of questions you have as it’s very hard to remember all you want to ask the doctor or oncologist knowledge can help you make informed decisions ,very sorry for your diagnosis,I do remember leaving hospital after having the stent inserted. Where there is life there is hope.

I was one of the lucky ones, I had surgery then chemo, during chemo I was told I was terminal They stopped my chemo near the end of my cycle, they said I wouldn’t have lived with more treatments,my oncologist can’t explain why I lived, one of those unexplained medical happenings,I have eaten mushrooms cooked consistently since that time,I read mushrooms supposedly stimulate your immune system,I read a bit concerning pc recently they are targeting turning on the immune system to help fight the cancer with immunotherapy it’s still in early phase,if you can have the cancer analaysed they can target the particular variant individually with a treatment more suited, still early days, the Avner foundation make grants to medical scientists to help develop new treatments. I downloaded relaxation tapes to listen to and help my mindset. I am one of the lucky ones it wasn’t my time ,I wish I could give some advice to you and others about my survival but unfortunately I can’t,I just took it one day at a time I still do

james2375 Hi james pancreatic cancer that has spread elsewhere is very debilitating both physically and mentally, trying to keep depression from overwhelming the person is difficult,I am a survivor of it,I have met online and in person others diagnosed with it,each person can react differently to the diagnosis,as you know ,the love and support of family and friends during this most difficult time in their lives can help ,leave no words unspoken ,I encouraged my family to talk with me about any of the issues we faced. Talking with the GP or a psychologist can be beneficial, talking with others with similar diagnosis can be helpful ,as most people have the same fears, doubts and concerns with what is happening with their lives she may get advice on how to hep at this time.

My family my mate and his wife were camping at Uluru in NT,I hadn’t been feeling to good on that trip.MY Grandaughter said my eyes and skin were turning yellow I took no notice thought I was getting a tan I was not thinking straight My body was suffering from an infection I later found out ,I went to urinate and could see my urine was like black tea, I finished up at Alice Springs hospital a few days later after describing my symptoms to my GP by phone he told my daughter to drive me straight there, we were hundreds of klms away in the outback . After an ultrasound of my pancreas it showed an abnormality two surgeons came to see me the next day and said It was possibly Cancer,At that stage I was pretty ill and did not fully take it in there was a few problems with the CT as they weren’t certain I said to my wife it could be cancer but they weren’t sure my wife and I were booked on a flight home to Victoria next day,I was heavily medicated,my daughter was driving the car and camper home with my mate accompaning them,I had bloods and a Ct when I got home, the medication I was give helped me,I seen my GP for results ,The CT was unremarkable, but my bloods weren’t good I was driven to a public hospital my GP recommended he wanted me treated at a particular hospital ,instead of going by ambulance and maybe not getting where he wanted me treated at a public hospital, I was wheeled straight in to an emergency bed ,I then had an ultrasound and CT ,next morning it was confirmed I had Pancreatic Cancer. My wife and I were devastated my daughter and Grandaughter were still on the road heading home so we decided not to tell them until they got home. My brother and his family were told of the diagnosis by my wife, at this stage I was very ill in hospital My daughter and grandchildren were told when visiting me it was very emotional for all. The word soon got around with my small band of good friends and the support started straight away,it certainly has helped me over the journey.

allyse What a nightmare situation your brother and family find yourselves in,it may be beneficial if you can have a chat to your GP about what is happening to your brother, and your own feelings, counseling may be beneficial for you,at this stage of terminal diagnosis your brother may come under palliative care if he is not already there depending on the circumstances Try and talk with your family no matter how difficult it seems .

Hi I can understand where you are coming from with your feelings and fear of Cancer returning, but it has not ,it would be hard to deal with always being afraid of soiling yourself,as has been suggested in an earlier post there are sanitary pads,I used them before my surgery it’s not the end of the world ,your energy levels and fatigue may possibly lift with exercise, you just need to try and change your mindset and take some small steps one at a time. Try to find another counsellor the other was to negative to say they couldn’t help you, the right one will help you achieve higher than you think is possible. Good luck

Anihcup I hope that Celiac Plexus Block went well and that your pain level has decreased lots,I am familiar with that procedure, when you start chemo have an open mind, our bodies all respond differently to it hopefully the side effects are not to bad and the chemo does it’s job on the tumor for you ,best wishes with your treatment.
