Before I go completely stir-crazy sitting in my little one-bedroon unit getting up every morning to study all day, attempting to avoid spilling paint on the carpet and stressing about my marks... I'm leaving on a jet plane - flying back to London on July 3rd next year. My Mum is still over there and she goes on summer holidays at the end of July, so we're driving around the UK for 5 weeks. England down to Wales, up to Republic of Ireland, on a ferry up to Northern Ireland, across to Scotland and back down through northern England and London to Kent where my Mum lives. I'm so excited because I didn't get to see the rest of the UK when I was there - leukaemia threw all my plans up in the air. I'll not enrol for the one semester from June to August and recommence when I come back at the end of August with a refrehed head!! For the first time since my diagnosis I have something wonderful to look forward to...it feels great, albiet a little precarious. I get a bit suspicious/skeptical/pessimistic when good things happen now, waiting for something to go wrong...

Hey thats great! I myself am doing the same thing next year, March 2010. I was suppost to take my Europe backpacking adventure this year in March, but my being diagnosed with cancer postponed that. Isn't it great to have something to look forward to and work towards? I know for me it's sometimes the only thing that keeps me uplifted and motivated.... Trecking around with your Mum will be great, I bet you cant wait!!! How exciting! Chels 🙂

July 2010 Jules...hasn't happened yet - I'm getting excited though - my diagnosis in December 2005 took a big chunk of my planned travel time, so I'm going to travel around the UK like I should have done back then!!

Hi I've been lucky enough to have 2 overseas trips this year and I'm sure that the fact that I was able to break the rhythm and DO something(other than work) has helped my emotional state enormously. The anticipation was half the fun actually. Enjoy My trips tell you Jules that life, although changed , does settle down and I am a middle aged lady galavanting around! Go for it you younguns!! S

Hey samex :) Thanks! Yes, i know its something to look forward to. Sometimes i just get a bit neagative, usually when i am tired (as i was) and i should learn to not speak or type in those times. lol I hope to be a galvanting middle aged lady next year. Least that is what i am aiming for!! One of the women that was at Milroy (cancer council accommodation place) had done a walk through spain and crossed over into other countries. Most inspiring woman to spend time with and we had some great chats in our time together. take care Julie

G'day Artist in Recovery That is really great news. Something to look forward to, something to plan for, something that is different than the routine of work and study. I'm quite envious and would love to be going back to the UK. I would like to go through Wales and have the time to visit and travel on all the little steam trains there. I'd love to go to Orkney again and be able to spend a bit more time understanding some of the neolithic history. I'd love to go to the Outer Hebrides, just to see what they are like. I would love to catch up with old friends who have remained friends. I would love to spend some time again in the lanes of Norwich and do some necessary family research there. So it sounds just s great what you are planning. Cheers Sailor The art of the sailor is to leave nothing to chance. Annie Van De Wiele
