Vomit Centre is perhaps the coolest name of any part of the human body. It is located in the stem of your brain, in an area called the medulla oblongata. The medulla oblongata is old, meaning it is also found in the brains of other critters not so closely related to humans, such as fish. Old parts of the brain tend to do the the really important stuff that animals with brains have been doing for millions of years, such as breathing and maintaining a beating heart.

Tomorrow is the first anniversary of being diagnosed with cancer. On this day one year I didn't know I had cancer. I was not worried at all.

thank you to every one who has sent messages, they are an invaluable source of support for Terry and for me.. We are on to day 7 today of his treatment, the days are very long with us starting work at 7am and working till 1pm then travelling an hour to the hospital, we have had several appointments in one day so far,with OT, Speech, Dietetics, Physio, and the Oncologist, so each day is around a 5 hour trip from start to finish.. wow we both look forward to falling into bed every night these days i can tell you that lol..

The latest addition to my collection is a clever piece of latex designed to protect a PICC line from the evils of water. It will replace something I now use and which I call The Plastic Bag With Rubber Bands. See me wearing my new toy here

I had radiation to my nose and eye area in June and July 2010. A few weeks ago tiny bits of skin startred to peel off my nose . It's not a big thing but enough to add to the unattractive things cancer has done to my face. This side effect was unexpected . And over a year later!I aked my opthamologist about the operation to remove excess skin from the upper eye lids to improve my sight . He said it was not possible with the eye affected by the cancer surgery.

Hi Folks Last week, 27th September, my Dad passed away at the Repatriation Hospital, Daw Park, in Adelaide. He was 94, and it isn't a cliche to say that he had a good innings. His farewell is this Tuesday, in the morning. He's already with Mum, so it may be a farewell, but also a celebration that they are finally re-united. Thanks everyone, for your thoughts and support. I will continue to visit, to listen and to join in the conversation. All the best to you all. Richard
