The Cancer Council offers 5 or 6 (can't remember which) counselling sessions to people with cancer who are suffering depression. If your husband agrees .It can be done over the phone or face-to-face. Call them. This is free. Also if he goes to his gp a health care plan can be organised so that he can have the same ,5or 6 sessions ,where Medicare pays. If you can find a psychologist who is willing to bulk bill there is no out of pocket for you. Under your cicumstances you have a good chance of finding such. Every Australian can access this . More is available if needed and your gp can advise here. Your husband can take advantage of both as the C.C. counselling does not count towards the Medicare ones. The biggest problem may be getting your husband to agree to this. Maybe his mum or dad can help to convince him to try this. If he already was depressed beore this all happened it is likely that it will get much worse so I hope he will get the help he needs. I mentioned these online support sites commenting on the blog about online chatting. One is Inspire Health and Wellness -groups for lots of medical conditions,including cancer groups. It has about 800,000 members. Another is The Rare Cancer Alliance. RCA also has a group on Facebook. I think Inspie may also have a Facebook page or group . I know of about 10 people in Australia with my cancer and I've met them through these sites.I belong to a Facebook group with 80 members from around the world,mostly from the USA. It is good to talk to people with the same cancer. We have a special bond . We are hoping that a group will be formed here for us . It would mean so much to us. In the USA some people manage to actually meet others with the same cancer because of the population difference . I don't use skype or that messenger thing . I think that since there are many rare cancers with so few Australians having each it is dificult for some people .That is why I use US sites as well. I have been able to connect with many there who have my cancer. There is another where I met a few with my cancer .This site has about 800,000 people and many groups for different medical conditions,including cancers. It is called Inspire Health and Wellness .US sites are used internationally . One difference that stands out is that they do talk a lot about God and praying. Australians generally tend to keep their religious /non-religious views to themselves ,not so many Americans. Still I believe use whichever and how many sites you like . I want to add that at least here we have been able to mention other sites. I met a Brisbane lady on the Rare Cancer Alliance .I wanted to direct her to this site but it is not allowed ,even in a private message . If I tried it would be deleted. I belong to a closed group( for people with my cancer) on Facebook . It's good . I also belong to an open group for Survivors of Head and Neck Cancers on Facebook but am more careful what I say there. If you google your own name somethings about you come up through Facebook and any sites where what was said is open to public viewing. I am hoping a group for people with my cancer is formed. We want a group for Australians with the same cancer as it is very rare. Closed groups are my first choice. There seems to be a special bond when you fing others like this. I feel closer to many Fb friends than I do to my friends offline ,in the "real world". I use chat on Facebook only when someone pops up to chat. It's ok but I prefer private messages there. My cancer cannot be cured but can be treated . I have no sign of recurrence and am doing ok . Mine is a head and neck cancer ,slow growing but relentless .It usally goes to the lungs but that hopefully is a long,long time away. Keep posting here so I will know how you are going. ... View more
