It is always a shock when you here the C word isn't it. I got mine as a new year "gift" and you get a nasty April fools day. As many others will tell you, the waiting is a big part of cancer whether for specialist appts, to have test results etc. also, like you, I have found time does wierd things or rather your perception of time. In the past I was in a r/ship and my partner had serious mental health issues. If I was going out doing normal stuff she would threaten to harm herself. Someone wise told me that it will not help either of us if I stayed home all the time just in case something happened.. As a carer, which I was, I got hooked up in thinking I had to be there for my loved one 24/7 But this just drove me to becoming depressed. As a carer it is vital to not feel 100% responsible all the time. And if that means your loved one needs hospital care then that is where they need to be. Crucifying myself got me nowhere. Carers have a right to take care of their own needs in fact it is essential both individually and to the health of any r/ship I think. Anyway that's my experience of being a carer. Hi Adinas Welcome to this site. I have endometrial cancer too and recently had a ct scan. They are noisy but quick so the procedure itself isn't scary. There is a group for women with gyny cancers you can join too. I recently joined and they are very supportive and do monthly online chat. See groups button on right top of page to see the contact person who facilitates the group. Dear Jules Your knowledge of palliative care is probably accurate. My point was about perceptions rather than reality. If Dazs family have a probably outdated view based on prior experience or even prejudice then that may be what Gee Gee is up against. I agree that everyone in the situation needs support. I can't throw light on exact nature of palliative care. What the word conjures up for me and possibly Daz and his family is this: that palliative care involves an acceptance that the illness can't be cured but rather managed. If they of this view then it will be confronting if they aren't in a place of acceptance. You had a good experience with your relations but they may just hear that they died. It is so tough wanting to help when it is possible they are not in same mental place as you. Also I wonder how much Daz's view is impacted by his parents view? A nightmare situation like that requires a rant. It sounds like hospital was traumatising. His mother sounds totally self absorbed and I am glad you chose to let some of the feelings out here. The kind of extreme frustration and even rage I would feel in your shoes and yet you sound like you handled things so well, I am in awe of your composure. If you are the primary carer or partner surely the palliative ppl have to speak to you. Maybe getting a power of attorney for medical purposes giving you the power may help get some clarity to the situation. Just a thought! Dear Paul I used to have major problem with going to dentist. Now I use deep very slow breathing combined with closing my eyes and recalling a very beautiful place in detail (CapeTribulation beach) and now I almost fall asleep at the dentist. Dear Jude I can understand that the confidence of the oncologist in the treatment would be a big factor. Given then warning re nausea can you start now with eating good quality foods to bring your body to a strong place before radiation. Also, if you have had radiation before can you recall the food/ drinks that were easiest for you to manage? I really hope the treatment is a success. Do you like music.
