I am about to start my new weight loss program (radiotherapy). I starts next week and I am not particularly looking forward to it at all. However, do it I will! Is this where I insert determined? lol At times it is very difficult to keep on track and keep my thoughts where they need to be and yet that will get harder when the treatment is underway. I believe this is where our strength comes in ... mind over matter type stuff. So its time to dig deep and get on with it and it will be all finished before i know it.

Hiya Donnai
My thoughts are with you and your family also. A tough time for you at the mo!
I was with my father when he passed away and although it was tragic i am glad we were there with him at the end.

Am trying this word on for size per se. Just to see how it fits in replacing "positive". Not that i dont want to be positive, i just dislike the connotations that it holds for cancer patients.

Hey harker
It is not strange to read your post at all.
I do/have used my position in small ways to get where i need to be. Not totally altruistic here, however, if something needs to be changed then it does. For instance, i have offered in my chemo head state to talk to my local rotary club. I figure if i am bald and up there talking about my experiences then people will "listen and hear" in a different way than if i was outwardly appearing normal. Now in a personally altruistic way, i might get offered a job from one of the people in rotary. Well, bit way out but you never know.
At times i sit and think this is exciting and its a chance to change and do something that i really want to. At other times its scary as being ill costs a fortune despite pats etc...
Thanks for your reply, its helped to put my head back in the right place. :)

Interesting that i should come across this thread as i have decided that i dont want to go back to the position i had before cancer and am not even sure if there is a job available to me. I have certainly been given a career change some thought and wondering if its going to be possible and which direction to head in etc... Course having treatment makes this a long slow process.

@ christine ... statistics are just numbers and as you have found out are not necessarily a good indication at all.
Its tough when we feel frightened and am sure it happens to us all. In fact it happened to me this morning and when i got home i called my oncology coordinator nurse and spoke to her about my fears and it was all good.
Hope i am making sense cos am way tired tonight, just got back from travelling to get mask made and scan.

Hiya Sailor ... Thanks so much for the links, i will look when i get a chance as am driving back up to perth again tomorrow. Only got home on sunday after last weeks episode le sigh! So will be next week by the time i actually get some head space to check things out.
I have been asked to talk to the local rotary club here so that will be an opportunity to talk about cancer and what it entails. Hopefully, it will inspire them to help out more. They already do quite a lot of fundraising at the moment for research. Maybe feedback from a cancer patient might help them to stay energised.
Thanks again and i will certainly check those links out.
The thing that is getting to me at the moment is the travel on top of the chemo and then all the other appointments in between. Has meant that i have had to travel 200 kms up and back weekly at the moment and its very tiring.
take care
Julie
