Hi all
went for my pre op checks getting ready for Wednesday 18/01/12 bloods, urine, ecg, blood pressure, and so on 4 hours later walking out of there with antibiotics as I have protein in the urine and white cells up and a possibility of not having the op due to an infection will find out tomorrow afternoon, so I am keeping fingers crossed all is a go. I need, want or what ever answers as to how good or bad things are I am so frustrated.

Thank you AJ and Wombat.it was like a nightmare that i just couldn't wake up from. I am glad i was there for her till the end. i just heard from my dad he seems to be ok when i spoke to him on the phone. I know she is looking down on us. I create candles and her favourite colour is purple and at her funeral i dedicated a purple candle to her and had it burning while the funeral was happening. When its her birthday, anniversary, the day she passed i will burn her candle in memory of her. I still see her face as she was passing i think that will be with me for a while. Right now im only just coping as hubby has just flown back to work today and am feeling a little lonely im constantly feeling nauseated and am having a hard time sleeping at night but yet for some strange reason im having a nap for about 2 hours during the day when i never could sleep at daytime. its very strange. thank you wombat for the name of the solace in the net i will have a look for it when i get a chance.

It didn't hurt me much as I was nearly over that but I became a bit annoyed or even a bit angry after we hung up.I think it was because I had buried the hurt and moved on and it brought it back ,not as strongly as a year or so ago.
Anyway I will deal with it again and move on . I appreciate your imput. Hope things are ok with you. Thanks for your lovely comments too.

Hi Tim,
I guess it depends on the type of cancer and the prognosis. It is life changing though for most I think.
Doing things you normally enjoy, does help, it takes the stress levels down, which helps you cope with the treatments too. Music is great!
I think you do get "used" to your diagnosis, but it takes time, it is a wake up call, though.
There is a balance between living a "normal" life and accepting life has changed, you can never go back to the pre-cancer "blissful ignorance", but it is much better to know (i) there is a battle to win & (ii) what the "enemy" is.
I hope you & your wife, manage to adjust to the news, get information and find some peace over Christmas and summer holiday.
This site is really good for the days when you just want to scream, coz we all remember the "shell shocked" feelings
Go well.
Sam

My cancer ,adenoid cysyic carcinoma,is not smoking related. So many people think that people with cancer probably have it because they smoke or smoked. In many cases that is not true.

How old is your mum?
It's difficult to offer suggestions , mot knowing the personalities and the roles you each have assumed . Families are all so different . Maybe a round table discussion??? Has Mum really been asked what SHE wants in each situation or does she let others take over ???
My mum is 83 and has 12 children so in a similar situation there would not always be full agreement,I am guessing.
Best of luck!
