I totally get you. How good would it be if cancer was something we could actually beat up- I think with all our efforts and emotional energy it would be ground into the dust within a day. But the slow smoulder of frustration and waiting really got to me as well. You don't have to smile here. -hugs- Emily

Hi Blacbeth, I'm glad you posted. What you're going through is so huge and scary it's really good that you reached out. Unfortunately, the 'running a mile' that your family did is not uncommon (although it is really hurtful)-most people who have been diagnosed experience something similar. There's different reasons for it- some people just don't know how to handle the news, or can't face the tough reality. It's definitely not a comment on you, though.
Keep posting, we're here for you. love Emily. x

Hi Gecko, my husband has been in remission from Follicular NHL for just over 18 months. He's still having 3 monthly check ups, and his oncologist is really pleased with him so far. He was part of a clinical trial, and had a type of chemo called Bendamustine at the Royal Melbourne. Good luck with everything, and remember to be kind to yourself, particularly now your 'to do' list is finished. love Emily

Hi Kim, my husband didn't have long term pain from his lymphoma, only for a few days early on, when his lymph nodes were getting bigger and encroaching on his gut. What type of pain are you getting?
Cool packs can be useful for inflammation, if your underarms or groin are tender (but nothing too heavy). It's probably best to ask your doctor directly, and be specific about what type of pain it is (sharp, dull, achey, generalised or specific to one small area) and how it rates on a scale of 1 to 10, and what isn't working as pain relief for you. The better you can describe your pain to the doctor, the better they can help you with it. I hope you get some relief soon. love Emily

Hi Nikki, The Warwick Foundation is an Australia-wide (but Melbourne based) cancer charity especially created to look after the unique needs of people aged 25-40 with cancer. One of their programs is called 'Mates in My Shoes', which connects people with the same cancer, and similar demographic (if they can be found). I highly recommend them as a support organisation for young Australians with cancer. www.thewarwickfoundation.org.au
