Two days ago I needed to get the chemo docs to fill in another medical report for centrelink. From this report it was cleary stated stage 4 lung cancer patients on average live less than 2 years...... I really don't believe this will be the case for me but since reading this I cannot shake this horrible feeling. I feel numb like I'm hearing it for the first time but this news is not new. Sometimes my treating team look at.me as though I am naive.......I'm not that I AM JUST NOT GIVING UP. "just when u think u cannot go any further u pick yourself up and you do" unknown.

I am so glad that you are not giving up . Many live way beyond predictions . You may very well be one of that group . I know you are looking forward to getting married and spending a long time with your husband .

It is only words, and if you feel that you can beat this then go for it. It doesnt do any good to feel negative about this. Its like the today version of pointing the bone. Those that didnt believe in it were ok. As Winston Churchill once said, "if you find yourself going through hell, keep going". Keep going, Rubes 1984. Wombat4

Hi Rubes I understand your response. I know all the facts about pancreatic cancer and how poor the survival rate is but somehow when I hear news stated in relation to me, it is like I have never heard it before. I think to manage each day we need to live with the possibility of a good outcome but somehow not waste too much time either. Just keep going. Kind thoughts for you Rikki

When I was diagnosed with my cancer i went an visited some friends and they spoke about different cases of people who had various cancers but their is one friend of theirs who had been given the 'kiss of doom' as it was phrased with lung cancer and not long to live but they performed surgery to lengthen his life and he is still going for what is now 15 years I believe and nobody can believe how well he still is. These stories were the ones that helped to keep me positive throughout my treatment and are good examples of who this horrible disease can be beaten against all the odds. My mother also had breast cancer 17 years ago and she is going strong so when I was diagnosed I already knew that it could be beaten even though my cancer was different but hey it is bad wherever it strikes and unfortunately some people are not as lucky as others at beating it but the way you write about your experiences I believe you will get through this. They are only words but sometimes seeing it in black and white in reference to your name on the paper makes it hit home in your mind add a 0 to the 2 and make it 20 years +

I really like your words Rubes and it is oh so true. I have inoperable pancreatic cancer which has less than a two year survival rate but I'm still going strong after 12months and I don't intend giving up in the near future at all. Sometimes we need to or have to take a step backwards but each time it happens I try and take another two steps forwards. What are those words "give in" Iv'e never heard of them cause that's something I don't intend to do.

Jules that is amazing and makes me smile - shows that nothing is ever in concrete. I love knowing when people defy the odds, it makes me feel stronger knowing anything is possible! May many healthy yrs be in ur future. 🙂 Rubes

Rubes To me its about how I take the journey. Don't let cancer define who you are more than necessary. Of course there are changes to our lives etc... but as per a discussion in another group I belong to, don't let it rule your life. hugsss Julie
