Today is Mum's eighth day in hospital following her most recent surgery. Hard to believe that this time last week she was in incredible post op pain. Now she is back to so much of what she could do before. Hoping she will be home and back in her own bed soon.

Mum's cancer has been like a rollercoaster, so many twists and turns, so many sudden, terrifying jolts. As her daughter,I emotionally ride the front carriage with her, but physically, I watch as helpless bystander as she goes through more than I could ever imagine having to endure. This week she had her third cancer surgery in three years, an emergency procedure that was totally unexpected. What was also unexpected were the horrendous medication side effects she had following the surgery.

Well...the journey has now really begun. I've had the PSA tests, the biopsy, the scans and the revealing one-on-one consultations. I've had the uncertainty. I've had the sleepless nights. I have cancer. Wow. How cold those words look on a page. How emotional those words make me feel. Yet, in being able to say it, there is a calm freedom. Now that I know. Now I have to act. Yesterday I met with the radiologist at the hospital. He was a calm, focused and friendly man. He gave me hope...

time heals - not for me. time just makes my lonliness more prevelent and more isolating. i feel cheated and so alone. i hate it!!! there is no one, nobody and nothing to fill me.

After twelve months recovery myself, yesterday my husband was diagnosed with a superficial spreading melanoma stage 1A Clarks level 3 mitotic rate <1 and a nodular melanoma stage2C Clarks level 4 mitotic rate 10>. Referred to melanoma clinic. Waiting for phone call for appointment.

Sorry, this might be a bit of a ramble. I should have written this kind of thing before. Hopefully it will give some hope to anyone with cancer - specifically locally advanced nsclc (advanced to lymphs in neck). I was first diagnosed in November 2013 after developing a cough on holiday. X-ray revealed enough for my GP to call it asthma. I thought no way, and asked for a CT scan. That told a very different story. Anyway things happened very quickly. 6 weeks of radical chemo-radiation therapy (concurrent - the best way, if you can stand it).
