Hiya S I heard that when i read it also but i dont think it is limited to that. For me it was interesting to read about coming out the other side of a diagnosis and having to live with limitations and how life has changed and yet it goes on. I think for anyone diagnosed with cancer or a major illness, those things can be incredibly difficult to get one's head around and to keep walking forward. The other side of that coin is that people need to know others feel the same and that they aren't alone or going crazy with their thoughts and feelings. Nicole It makes perfect sense! I sometimes avoid people and situations where it is going to put me into the "cancer patient" category. How wonderful that the people you work with are now at ease and happy to whinge about such things as a cold! Glad to hear your husband was finally getting a handle on your diagnosis ... it is just so hard for everyone. Gosh re his heart and age, he is certainly going to have a new perspective on some of the things you have had to go through. The helicopter service sounds great, not sure there is an alternative here in the west. Although i heard of some angel flights from geraldton to perth, i think!?!? Re alternatives, as a cancer sufferer i am a tad sceptical and yet if used alongside modern science can be beneficial. I would never use them on their own and you always need to consult with your onco people with what you can and cant use, specially if having chemotherapy. :) When i was having treatment i was a country cancer patient and there was a lady that had her bladder removed. Hi Km The first couple of months after the initial diagnosis is a blur of what ifs and other questions. My husband was diagnosed with GBM last March and we lost him in December. We were told he would have anything between 7 months to 2 years. He lasted 10 months. I wouldn't say there is a balance but I'd recommend you think about what you want to do for your mum and what you need to do with your mum for you to be ok should her time be limited. We are the ones who have to pick up the pieces of what's left of our lives when they move.Leave nothing left unsaid...that helps with the grieving process. Also factor in what she wants to do. My husband worked 3 days a week right up to 4 weeks before he passed and I had to facilitate that by driving him to and from work. The drives to and from work (about an hour each way) gave us time away from the girls (we have 2 little uns) to talk about everything and nothing in particular so in facilitating his wish I filled my memory bank with many precious moments.
