We got married 29 years ago, and for as long as I can remember, I have thought of him as my rock. He has always been there for me to lean on in hard times, which we have had our share of. When I was first diagnosed, I thought I had lost him, he stopped being him, no gardening, no pottering around the house, didn't even seem to want to work which he loves. That is the time I was strong, I sorted my affairs out, wrote my will, arranged my funeral and power of attorney, legal and financial. I did all these to spare him the burden.

A number of people have been expressing their grief over death of loved ones or the imminent death of loved ones. I can empathise with them. My father died a long time ago, I was in my mid twenties at the time. I had known him as a father and was starting to know him as a friend and a grandfather. We were 16,000 km away at the time and in those days that was over thirty hours travelling and the fare for two of us to Australia was equivalent to six months wages, so we couldn’t even come home for the funeral. He died ten months after my son died.

Because I cannot be with my Dad everyday I am feeling a little disconnected. In my mind I know that he is going to succumb to cancer but in my heart it feels like it is all just a dream. That I will wake up soon and all will be well. If I sit down and think about the reality I cannot function, so therefore I am pushing it aside. I dread every time the phone rings and I only realised that today.

Just a quick blog to say our wedding day has arrived.Looking forward to celebrating our love tonight with family and friends. All going well so far except for Partners very very sore feet but looks like he will be able to get his shoes on at least for the ceremony and photos. Well better go now as off to the hairdressers. My Dad lost his battle with cancer last Sunday. And all i want is for people to leave me alone. I feel that i haven't had enough time to let this all sink in , and when it does i am afraid that it will break me.
