Using my elbows I worked my spine sideways across the mattress and into a position where I could roll onto my left side. It had been three days since I had tried to stand up on my own. It was bound to hurt, I knew. Working my ankles up the centre of the bed, I forced my knees to flex and move towards the edge. Supporting my weight on my left elbow, which snuggled under the good ribs, I lifted my right shoulder upwards. I paused, knowing that as soon as I pushed off and tried to sit up my right side would feel it.

[this is an excerp from a post I made on another 'leukaemia support' site back in 2006 in the UK] It came about one night while out to dinner with friends, I wanted to sit at a particular table and my friends wanted to sit at another. Having always liked to 'win' I put on my best sulky face and said, 'Oh, but I have cancer!' A few of my friends then said, 'can you actually claim things if you have cancer?' I looked at one thick friend and said 'no, you idiot, its like a 'sympathy card' - you dont physically have a card...'

Morning all. Apologies to those who had to wade through a whole lot of spam posts this morning. I think they are all deleted and the user is blocked. We're investigating better ways to prevent this. On a happier note it's great to see so much conversation and mutual support going on.
