Dearest Steve... I also had no support during chemo and after. I've lost nearly all my friends. Not one has asked how I am and how I'm doing. Not only did my friends desert me my parents also did. Kicked me out of the apartment they had for me while going through chemo...they said I complained to much and  shunned me even more for taking pain pills. I had become a junkie to them. Why can people not understand this horrible disease? I am 6 months out of chemo and still feel i haven't gotten a clear answer if is gone. every time i went to dr. It was everything looks great only to go into the hospital for SOB and be told there were three lymph nodes they were still looking at. My symptoms have started again. I feel abandoned from every corner. Dealing with cancer i thought would be the worst..no..now i have neuropathy and absolutley miserable. Hi Flight, I can relate to your analogy and I think we all feel the aftermarth of our illness leaves us changed and somewhat fractured. It is always hard explaing to kids what is happening to their family members. Our son is 3 1/2yo and fortunately we can just say "grandad is sick but the doctor is trying to fix him", sadly grandad passed away 2 years ago now so we still have to explain that he's not coming back. I would speak to the school councellor about how to approach children of your sons age about matters like cancer and operations, I'll bet she/he has a whole lot of info ready to go and can suggest some books to read to help him understand whats happening. We don't really know what we are eating when we buy fruit and veges but at least we are eating them which is better than not eating them. When you eat meals prepared outside your home you really can't be sure if they are as healthy as they look either.We can only try to do what is best. ... View more

Hi Amanda I am by no means strong, just super determined. My 9 yr old is really the one I worry about most. The younger one is too young to understand but the 9 yr old is already noticing that life after cancer diagnosis is different. I have organised for her to speak to the counsellor at her school and am trying to set up a support network for her to turn to just in case I am not able to be there for her as we all know how hectic it can get caring for a loved one and running the house at the same time. I am lucky that my parents have come to live with us to help us out ( at least most days I feel lucky.....some days mum makes me feel like pulling my hair out :)) I can't imagine what it would feel like to have a terminal illness but I do know that it is challenging to be a carer of someone with a terminal illness. Hubby is always surprised when I give him my perspective of things. He can't remember a lot of the things that happened at the hospital pre and post op and when we talk about it he seems surprised at what i tell him we went through. I think its amazing that you and your hubby are coping so well with a double diagnosis of cancer. I guess we dont know how much we can take til put to the test. All the best to you and your family. Sailor I to have a pill box my oroxine medication changes form day to day and I am soooo forgetful, I like to think its baby brain...really I have been terrible since having my thyroid removed.
