Not too worried about the financial side - I think it's like $27 for a container, and a container lasts about 4 days .. and the whey protein powder is even cheaper and lasts longer. On that basis, I'm spending something like $50 on food for a week .. which, really .. pre-cancer I could spend that in a day. So no worries about defraying costs. Found fortisip to be a bit gross, think it was vanilla, can't remember - didnt try different flavours, just jumped over to sustagen.

Hey there, I have had stage 4 lung cancer. It metasticised to my brain metastasis about a year ago (April 2016). The cancer was originally diagnosed in August 2015. Initially I had chemo and 30 radiotherapy treatments for the tumour in my right lung, which had spread close by into my lymph sysyem. Last May, after 10 whole brain radiotherapy sessions the tumour stopped growing, but it left me physically wasted for 5 months. My Oncologist started me on Nivolumab (Opdivo) late in October last year. I am treated for 90 minutes every fortnight. The results have been far better than expected and although my 2 tumours haven't shrunk yet according to a CT scan in January, they have not grown either. I feel physically better than I have for a year now and am just taking it day by day. I am also growing wheatgrass as a Chinese friend of mine suggested it. I juice it into 75 ml shots, one a day. I hope this may offer encouragement to others who may consider Nivolumab. It has been life changing for me. At this moment no one would even know I have been this ill! I think staying positive and praying are the 2 other things I have going for me, as I have 3 kids.

I've been in remission from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma for the last ten monhs. I work in child care and it has been challenging to deal with the physical part of my job. Emotionally I find it very rewarding, that's what keeps me coming back. I'm enjoying being part of a dynamic team and I like working with the other girls. My specialist told me the neuropathy in my feet will eventually subside so I deal with the stiffness and tingling in my feet. The stiffness in my right leg is mostly from falling twice during my chemo treatment and my leg is still not quite right but the doctor said that will also get better. I'm nowhere near 100% but I feel lucky to get another shot at life and to get back to the job I didn't get a chance to enjoy when I was diagnosed in October last year. I work on a permanent part time basis for the moment and have asked that I do no more than 4 shifts a week until I am better. It's also great for my family to have me back after all those health problems, I have two children in their late teens and their lives were turned upside down when I got sick. All in all I am happy and look forward to the future, I still fear the lymphoma coming back but I try not to focus on it as it will detract from the quality of my life now that I am trying to get on with things.

Hi Carol
IT's a tough treatment to go through and food does taste weird after treatment. Has your husband seen a dietician lately? I know they hounded me through treatment re not losing too much weight. Your husband also might be suffering from depression as that happens a lot to people after treatment. All of this is worrying and tough on you xx

Hello , I am not normally a fan of Robyn Williams but I was watching Patch Adams the other day and something he said made sense. He said that we are all dying a little every day. Therefore all anyone really has is today and everything else is illusion. Make the most of what you have today because there is nothing else. This makes particular sense to me as I now live from six month check up to the next six month check up. Worst case scenario , I could be dead in 2 years. However all this is meaningless really as I am alive today. This took me a while to understand and sometimes I think I may be a better person for knowing this. I agree that your husband may recover. Coming to terms with your own mortality is a challenge. I am watching my 1 1/2 year old daughter playing while I am writing this. Death is part of life. I hope this helps a little.
