Hi DJ, your post and in particular many of the replies brings many upsetting feelings to the surface for me. Although I'm not technically a survivor, everyday I wake-up I remind myself that I have survived another 24 hours. I no longer disclose my medical state nor any detailed personal history. Past relationship experiences have clipped my openness and honesty and I dump all obvious symptoms on my increasing age. Actually I look quite normal, whatever that is. Attempting to rekindle relationships with old  buddies has been surprising and in a few cases really shocking. Some simply dont wont to go anywhere near a discussion and others already have their opinions. Seems that some even have more knowledge about me than I do. My general attitude is if you dont wanna friend me because I'm sick then your're not worthy of my friendship anyway.  I hope everyone here is doing ok today and survive another day. Dear Maggie. i hope it’s alright that I just am average person am reaching out. But I want to listen I want to be there for you. I don’t know you but it doesn’t matter. I am 31 I have two kids and I lost my dad early this month to lung cancer and I am not going to pretend to understand what you are going through but I care! Hi, this Easter has been hard for us, I keep thinking back to this time last year, we were all waiting for Dad to start his radiation, if only we knew then what was ahead... also today we all went to lunch for my daughters 25th birthday (which is tomorrow) we went to one of Dads favourite clubs & I'm sure he was there with us. My then 18 year old never came to the hospital and has only recenetly discussed any of my treatment and ongoing checkups etc. (diagnosed in August 20007)because his girlfriend asked about it. I was very angry at him for a long time but I have come to realise that it was his way of managing. I know that he will be no different if it ever comes back. My younger son was, and still is, very different - loving and thoughtful and needing to discuss what had happened to me. What cancer teaches us is that everyone responds differently to the diagnosis and treatment, both patients and those around us. I think it has taught me to be more tolerant and accepting in many ways. ... View more

Hi Mignon, That's good news about the 5-year all-clear. I think that feeling like your feelings are "wrong" makes things harder. I'm glad you were able to get some help & feel like you're normal.
