update on my grandfather- He has said a few words and responding to commands such as 'stick your tongue out'. My uncle was asking him questions and pop was able to answer by saying 'yes' or trying to shake his head for no. Was able to gently squeeze doctors hand on paralyzed side, but still no sensation.

I seem to read about a type of cancer I've never heard of every couple of weeks lately. I think I once read that there are about or over 200 cancers . On this site we see many kinds . It seems cancer of one kind or another can strike us at any age ,no matter what our lifestyle has been . We read so much about ways to lower our cancer risk but this will not necessarily prevent cancer taking hold.

on Thursday morning we lost a beautiful lady, my Aunty, to Amyloidosis. I had never heard of this form of cancer until not long ago when a friends husband died of it and now its taken my Aunty. she leaves behind five wonderful children who will say goodbye to her next friday. on top of that i am watching my sister slowly die from peritoneal mesothelioma. this latest news has knocked her for six and we hope it will not send her backwards. sometimes i hate this world we live in and just wish Cancer was never heard off. its one day at a time for now, for all of us. I am new to this sort of thing (forums, blogs etc) but feeling like I need it. My mother-in-law, who I love dearly, has metastic breast cancer in her liver. I think she is really very ill atm but I can't seem to get any straight information from medical people so I thought I'd put my questions "out there" in cyberspace. Can't hurt!

After the roller coaster ride of the last couple of weeks this week was supposed to be a bit easier. It is a non-chemo week for my wife and apart from a visit from the community nurse to change the dressing on her PICC—oh and a trip to the podiatrist to checkup how an operation on an ingrowing toe nail had gone—the only thing scheduled was a blood test. My wife was still a bit vague and forgetful at time but generally an easy week. It wasn’t.

Finding it difficult coming to terms with the side effects of the anterior resection, no colostomy, the toilet can never be too far away, I know it is just a matter of getting my diet right, but it is hard to keep positive when there is so much discomfort. Chemo starts next week. I feel a fraud when I read other blogs...........
